Rather than go into some diatribe as to why these men joined Union Forces, let’s watch a movie instead. The video below shows (according to history) the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which was one of the first official black units in the U.S. armed forces. Their courageous assault on Fort Wagner played a key role in bringing about an end to slavery.
